The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

These teeth that were once essential to the livelihood of early civilizations no longer serve a purpose. Capable of gnawing and tearing through dense and coarse meats, the diets of humans have changed drastically over time, resulting in narrowed jawlines and lack of oral space.

As a result, these third molars or wisdom teeth often do more harm than good. So, when it is time to remove these teeth, our team must determine the best course of action.

If the molars are slightly visible above the gumline (partially erupted), we can use dental forceps to gently rock them back and forth until they release. However, if they are underneath the gumline and are impacted, we must perform a surgical procedure that involves opening the gum tissue, sectioning the tooth, and removing it in pieces so that we do not further disturb the bone.
